10 Outdoor Spring Cleaning Projects

outdoor spring cleaning

Spring cleaning is not always fun for most of us. But it is important. As the winter end and we begin looking forward to spring and warm weather, something inside of us encourages us to get our homes in order by cleaning, organizing and throwing away things we’ve hoarded over the winter months.

But who says spring cleaning is only for the interior of your house?
The exterior of your house could probably use a little tidying up after a cold, wet winter, too!

It’s Time For Home Exterior Cleaning

Here are home exterior cleaning projects that will drastically improve the curb appeal of your house in Concord, and, more importantly, will offer much-needed maintenance and upkeep that will save money over the years ahead.

1. Gutter Cleaning

Spring is the optimal time to clean your gutters, since a lot of leaves and debris accumulate in the fall and winter months. Pollen is at its highest in the spring, making a huge mess in your gutters and downspouts if they aren’t properly cleaned.

Plus, pests and animals are looking for places to build homes in spring, so having your gutters cleaned will help to prevent an infestation in your home.

Gutter cleaning consists of cleaning the inside and outside of your gutters, removing mold, mildew, stains, and returning them to a nice appearance.

2. Window Cleaning

Home window cleaning is necessary for spring cleaning. First floor windows will not cause you too much of a headache, but any second and third floor windows will be tougher to reach.

Cleaning windows by hand is a hard job, and it will need a lot of tools, not to mention climbing up and down a ladder! A soft wash or professional cleaning of your exterior windows is the perfect solution to get the panes and the outer frame clean.

3. Pressure Washing

You aren’t going to want clean gutters and clean windows on a dirty house. That means you will want to pressure wash your house too!

Pressure washing is fast, effective and doesn’t cost too much. You can pressure clean your house, patio furniture, patios, wood and stone porches and walkways with very little effort. It will remove dirt and mud so they will not stain your house, and you can also prevent the spread of mold, mildew and allergens.

4. Driveway Cleaning

Clearing off your home’s driveway and giving it a good cleaning might seem counter-productive since you will just be driving on it, but actually, a clean, well-cared for driveway can increase the curb appeal of your house.

A professional pressure washer can do wonders for driveway cleaning, whether it is concrete, asphalt, stone or some other material. Also think about adding a gravel or mulch border to your home’s driveway to really make it pop!

5. Patio Cleaning

Your home’s patio probably gets the most use throughout the summer months, so it is easy to overlook it in the winter since you aren’t doing a lot of outdoor entertaining, relaxing or grilling. Your patio could be in bad condition the first time you go onto it in the spring.

Detergent and water – and a little muscle – are sometimes be enough for patio cleaning, but if you notice signs of mold or mildew, you may need to think about a more aggressive option, like professional power washing, to ensure that friends and family can enjoy your patio all summer long.

6. Roof Cleaning

Algae and moss are common home roof problems in Concord. While you are cleaning the exterior of your house, it is a great time to pressure clean your home’s roof too, but you will need to use a different method than what you use for most of your home’s exterior cleaning.

If you notice streaks on your home’s roof, algae is probably the reason. Moss is pretty obvious, too. These contaminants can’t be wiped off shingles, nor can you power wash the roof. Both of these methods will damage the shingles on your home’s roof.

The ideal course of action for roof cleaning is to spray the shingles with a half-bleach, half-water mixture and then leave it sit. This solution will eliminate all organisms on your home’s roof without lowering its lifespan.

7. Spruce up the Front

The front of your house is what most people passing by see, so try to make the best impression you can for visitors, neighbors and for yourself! Returning home to a clean exterior will instantly improve your day, and it will motivate you to spend a lot more time outdoors.

You can clean your front porch with soap and water or a good power wash. Clean cobwebs and mud off of the front porch, and think about painting it a new color for a fresh look! Clean overlooked areas like the porch ceiling, light fixtures and ceiling fans, too.

8. Organize Outdoor Tools

You will be spending a lot more time outdoors, so spring is a wonderful chance to organize everything you will need for outdoor work.

Gardening tools as well as pool care equipment should all have an assigned place outside your house – a place that it is safe from harsh weather and not in sight so it is not a constant eyesore to anyone. Spending the time to organize in the spring allows you to enjoy the exterior of your house much more throughout the time of year that you spend the most time outdoors.

9. Lawn Care & Landscaping

Your lawn, trees and garden bushes can make a huge impact on the look of your house.

Eliminate weeds around the exterior of your flower beds and walkways, till up places where you might be planting later on and sweep off walkways. You can also spray pre-emergent weed poison to make yard care easier on yourself throughout the next few months. Trim all the bushes too.

10. Clean the Grill

After sitting unused for months, your gas or charcoal grill could need a good cleaning, too. Leftover grease and food from your grill are unappetizing, but even worse they can also make you and your family ill.

Wet it down to get rid of leftover ash, then scrub the grates with a scrubber or grill brush (so you don’t leave behind metal particles that can get into food) and a dish soap or degreaser.

You can probably complete all of these projects over the course of a few weekends but it will be a lot of tough work. Instead, give us a call!
